Day 10...There's No Place Like Home...

After a depressing night at a meth addict infested, crap hole of an "RV Park" in Glendive, MT, I set my sights on getting home. 11 and a quarter hours, 710 miles (1142.6 Kilometers) later, I'm here... I didn't even try to take pictures along the way. I missed the giant buffalo statue in Jamestown, ND. The giant catfish statue in Floodwood, MN. The Paul Bunyan statue in Akeley, MN.

The only pictures I took were... Almost there...

Getting closer...

At last...

10 days of riding. Almost no rain. 3479 miles! (5598.9 km)

What a great trip! I got to meet some really interesting people and ride in some new areas. I can't wait to go back!

    1. Once I put my mind to it, there was no way I wasn't going to get home. I stopped only for gas and 1 10 minute stop at McD's for a chicken sandwich and water. Then back on the road.

  2. Wow, so glad you made it home safely.

I feel there is a story behind the RV Park and a reason the word 'dive' is in the name of the town.

Man my butt was sore after 450 miles, I can't imagine how your tuckus must feel.

    1. The RV Park looked ok until I'd been there a while and started to look around a bit. The guys next to me worked for some roofing company. They must have been renting the 3 trailers. It looked like they were built in the 60's. Someone had made foam skirting around them and duct taped an air conditioner to the side wall. They were up until midnight playing Heavy Metl music on their truck radio. They left the door open and the constant ding-ding-ding of the door chime just about drove me crazy. Don't even ask about bathroom facilities.... Needless to say, I waited until I got home!

710 miles is now my longest day. I think I'd have been ok up to about 800..My butt wasn't doing too bad!

  3. Too bad about the last night - what a heck of a long ride for the last day, but you're home. Safe and Sound. Well done (sounds even better in kilometers, did you know you travelled 5,598.908 km - wicked!)

    1. It does sound better in K. The 33481 miles on my bike becomes 53,882.3K. Not bad for an '09. The 710 miles on the last day becomes 1142.6K in a day!

It sure feels good to be home!

  5. Welcome home, Erik. I had to look up Cable, WI to get a better feel for the area you live in. You did a heck of a last stretch. I couldn't have done that. I guess that's what happens when the cattle smells the waterhole.
Thanks again for making it all the way to Oregon to meet up with the another bunch of crazy people (at we are not on drugs or booze...)

    1. Thanks, I was motivated to make it home that last day. I kind of paid for it today though. I'm a little slow and sore, but another good nights rest in my own bed, and I should be recovered by tomorrow.

It was fun to finally put faces to the blogs I read. What a great group of people!

  6. Erik,

It seems like the whole world is heading through or in MN these days. Except me. Love state. It's the closest place to perfection in the entire world, I think - particularly now that we're in the grips of global warming here in Kansas. Lakes, good people. You found it.

How many mods have you got on that Kaw to ride it 700 miles in a day? I've only ever gone further on the Connie one time.

    1. I'll post about the comfort mods later today.
Born and raised in MN, only just moved to WI over the winter. It's almost the same thing.
