Day 9...Belle Fourche, SD to Limon, CO

Today, John and I packed up and left South Dakota, and started on our way to AZ. We made it 458 miles to Limon, CO. It was a challenge to get this far today. At one point I passed a bank clock that showed 105 degrees (40 C). We were wetting the cooling vests at every stop. I was filling the camelbak as often as I could. It was almost painful to stop and try to take a picture. Opening the face shield was like stepping in front of a blast furnace!!!
We stopped for the night at the KOA. Their camper cabins have air conditioning!!!
I only got a few pictures today.

Bob, this is pasture land......

  1. Gee Erik the pasture land shot looks like it could be anywhere in outback Australia. 40°C is bloody hot to be riding in in full gear.

    1. I wanted to snap a picture of the "No services next 75 miles" sign, but I saw it too late.

The heat makes it a bit less enjoyable!

  2. That is just too darn hot. I can see how you would only stop when necessary and not for pics.

Great sunset shots. I bet you were happy to see the sun go down.

    1. I couldn't believe how fast it cooled off when the sun went down! It was nice.

  3. Erik - just like a cowboy riding off into the sunset eh? Love that pasture land, that's why I love Wyoming!

    1. I did some riding today that I think you'd enjoy. 10,000 foot pass, easy, with trees on both sides... and not just the tree tops either.

  4. Nice sunset sequence. I can appreciate the blast furnace comparison. Central WA was 105°F on my way south. It was difficult to stay hydrated....

    1. I don't know how my buddy John does it with no camelbak to constantly sip from. It's easy to get ice to fill it. Every time I stop for water or Gatoraide at a store, they always let me get some ice from the soda machine to fill the camelbak.
