End of Riding Days.

In the last 2 days I've read the blogs of at least 8 other riders. They all have one thing in common, the writers are out riding, or enjoying their weather. My riding season ended with my Thanksgiving meal. The temps dropped from the upper 50's that day to the lower 20's that evening. It started snowing later that night and it has pretty much continued since.

So, like the cats... we enjoy the fruits of my labor and watch as the firewood burns.

The bikes wait for warmer weather in the garage. Oils have been changed, fuels have been Sta-Bil-ized, tires inflated and all batteries wired for a Battery Tender.

I think they'll have a long wait...

  1. Bummer. But at least you have kitty and fireplace comfort. :)

    1. The fireplace has been going all day! The cats have been napping in front of it all day too.

  2. If you pull things out of the garage, you may have enough room for laps on the bikes...

  3. Erik, Richard is right - you might get some tight U Turn practice in over the winter in that stadium sized garage. You've got more snow sticking to the ground than we do, but with the plummeting temps I figure it must be over (even for the die hards) here too.

  4. Richard, Karen, I think you're right. I probably could work on my full lock u-turns.

I don't think it's going to get above 29° all week. The lows are going to single digits at night.

    1. I heard 50 or 50's for Sunday. Not sure about the plural 50 but I've decided that's what I heard.

It may not be over yet.......

  5. I have snow. I have a fireplace. I have two cats. I do NOT have a garage. I'm a real Wisconsinite now because I bought one of those tarp thingys that fits over a steel pole form and that's where I cram my poor battery-less scooter.

I look forward to a garage again someday....

    1. I've seen quite a few of the tarp and frame storage covers around. Some of them looked pretty durable and well enclosed.
Some day I'll add either a lean-to on the side of the garage, or a garden shed out back. I'm thinking lean-to though.

    2. We've been using one of those shelters the last few years for hay and it's worked out really well. No horses, so no hay this year but I did keep a few bales around, making some nice nesting spots for our 3 barn cats.

The two spoiled felines in the house have no idea what happens when the world is <65 or >80 degrees.

    3. We have 5 spoiled cats. 1 of the was a feral Tom when he started to hang around. It's been a few years since he's been outside. He wants nothing to do with winter after getting bad frost bite on his ears a few years ago. 2 of them have only limited exposure to outside. None of the get out now that we're up here. Too many predators around!

  6. Erik:

Even without snow we cannot ride when there is fog or frost. I had to scrap my window today but it was pleasant during the day

I have already installed my 4 snow tires but that usually means we don't have to use them. We have a fireplace but no cats

    1. I would be interesting to live in a area where winter is fog, rain and frost. I could get used to that, but I think I'd miss the 4 distinct seasons we have here.

  7. Brrrr. Bummer the end of the riding season came for you. But the snow is really pretty.

Do the cats entertain you when you are trapped in the house or just nap the day away?

We woke to 29 this morning with frost. The rains will come back though and it will be back in the 40's. A trade off I guess.

    1. The cats are a constant source of amusement! Between naps, they play and chase each other. For 5 males, they all get along pretty good.

      I don't think I'll see 40's till spring :(
