Just to Catch Up....

It was a bit chilly in the north woods of Wisconsin this morning... -27.5F (-33C) Air temp, not factoring in wind chill...

On Saturday, while on our way to the dump, we got to meet one of our neighbors. It was an accidental meeting...

He was backing out of his driveway as we were passing by. Everyone is OK, and the insurance companies have been notified. The right side doors of my Chevy Silverado are in pretty good shape compared to the back corner of his Chevy HHR!

My riding buddy, John, and his wife, Wendie, have been up in Eagle River, Alaska for the last few months. They're working on settling a family member's estate. They sent us 2 really nice and unexpected Christmas presents. The bald eagle print is quite large and beautifully framed. It looks great in our dining room. Nancy and I will get the bear framed and it will go in our living room. Thanks John and Wendie!

The City of Hayward had it's usual Christmas time light show again this year. The store fronts on Main street were decorated with thousands of LED lights.

Nancy and I continued a holiday time tradition. We took a big bag of cat food, some $$, and some treats over to the Northwoods Humane Society in Hayward. We spent a few hours visiting with the cats and handing out treats. Nancy and I both found special friends. Butters, an older male orange tabby fell in love with Nancy and hugged her neck.

While Midnight, another older male, all black cat, wouldn't leave my lap. I sat down and he circled me a couple of times and climbed on.

We almost came home with two more cats that day. I'm sure we'll be stopping back with treats again soon!

Meanwhile, our yard continues to attract lots of wildlife...

We love winter in the northwoods...

  1. I like the last picture. Truly a picture of Winter in the north!

Too bad about meeting your neighbor in the middle of the street. We always worry about that as many times we have to back out of our driveway.

  2. I plow my drive so that I can head out into the street rather than back up into it!
I like the last picture too.

  3. That's great fun that Hayward covers the town in lights. Bright, cheerful and most welcome! Hope they stay up for a while. At this point they are what I call "Winter Lights" for the gloom.

There are lovely pastoral ways to enjoy the deep northern winters. I leave apple cores out for the local bunnies and squirrels.

That had to be painful to walk out of the HS without a new buddy...

Owch ! I don't know why people back up onto a main road. same with backing into parking spots, much easier when you leave rather than backing up & safer

I love that last photo too

the cats must have sensed that you are kind & caring people

    1. In their defense, almost no one ever drives that section of road.. but still, you've got to look both ways every time!

Nancy shot that last pic from my truck while rolling down the road

  5. Whoops ... too bad about the truck. Love the pictures, looks like it's pretty cold. We were +7C and pouring rain (unusual) tonight it is supposed to plummet to -37C (we're under a flash freeze warning right now.)

  6. Been thinking about you up there Erik, hoping that the woods have offered you some protection from the wind.

Always sorry about dings on the vehicles.

    1. The wind hasn't been too bad. It's cold again tonight but I'm hoping it won't get as cold as last night!

  7. Some much good stuff in one post (except for the accident - yikes).

Great idea visiting the humane society. It is hard for me to go to our local one as I'll want to bring them all home.

Thanks for the pictures of the wildlife in your yard. I always enjoy those pics too.

    1. It was hard to leave those two behind. The woman that runs the cat rooms said that those 2 were older and less likely to be adopted. We almost brought them home... I know we'll be going back to visit them soon.

  8. Nice photos, and too bad about the truck although any accident that ends with no injuries isn't all bad. Weather this year is nuts! As VStar Lady posted we've been up and down like a .... yo-yo lately and dropping back into the deep freeze tonight.
