Signs of Spring?

Today I noticed what might be a real sign of spring. Even though we just got 10-12" of heavy snow the other day, the sun's been shining and the temps have been somewhat warmer. What makes me think spring is near? The sump pump started cycling on and off today, and the dehumidifier in the basement started running today too. I hope I didn't just jinx myself, I don't need anymore snow.

Here are the last pictures of this winter's snow... I promise.

All of them were taken within a block or two of my house on Saturday, 4-5-14.

The tennis courts, note the posts for the nets.

This is what happens when you only visit your house in the summer.

The roads in my neighborhood.

Taken from the side windows of my truck.

    1. I'm envious of people that can ride year round but there's always a trade off. Our summer is mild and several homes get by without A/C. If we do get some hot weather, it doesn't stay long.
The melting snow weather does feel colder. I think the dryness of the bitter cold weather helps make it more tolerable, and the more humid and warmer weather makes the cold feel colder.... If that makes sense?

    1. Thanks Martha. I hope things green up quickly, and that the rains wash away all the crap winter leaves behind.

  3. Good news the sump pump and dehumidifier are on. Lots of melting going on hopefully. Will be interesting to see just how long it takes to melt all that snow.

Are areas around you prone to flooding? Hope not.

    1. We're up on the top of a large hill, so it would have to have flooding of Biblical proportions to affect us. There are a couple of rivers and streams near by. I'm sure the water will be high.

  4. I like the photo of the mail and paper boxes peeking out from the snow bank.

  5. Amazing, these snow levels, I have never see so much white stuff compiled. (In Calgary we had snow and lots of cold, but never that much snow.)

    1. The neighbors say that this has been a "normal" winter for snow amounts. I guess our last 2 years here were "light" in the snow totals!

  6. I remember snow levels like that as a child, and I have fond memories of it as a child. However, as an adult there is no way I would live anywhere with that much snow.
Hope Spring comes soon so you can finally ride again.
