Once More into the Cold!

It's currently a very pleasant 7°F (-14°C) outside. The wind is blowing pretty good so I don't feel like going out to blow the few inches of new snow out of the driveway. The TV news is all excited about the returning cold. It's going to get colder tonight and not warm up much for a few days. Monday looks like the cold day, with a high of -10°F(-23C) and a low of -22°F (-30C). As long as the wind is calm it will just be COLD but not unbearable! Here's what the latest from weather.com says...

The Squirrels are busy feeding in the back yard. This poor guy is dusted with the falling snow.

Even the Downy Woodpeckers are busy...

Today, Nancy made some home made potato and cheese soup for lunch. There's enough left over for a couple of lunches...

There's a fire in the fireplace and the living room is toasty. It's going to be a good night to snuggle on the couch under a blanket and watch some TV. We can wait out this round of cold weather...

  1. Enjoy! Our long term forecast is for normal (below 0°F) temperatures to return in a week or so. That 18mph wind would really make it unbearable!

  2. There's that W word.

Tomorrow I'll most likely be walking dogs. Sounds like you are set for a very sleepy eve- if you aren't already nodding off!

  3. When it's cold and blowing it feels extra cozy in front of the fire. I'm hoping your cold streak doesn't head this way - we've had -30C feeling like -41C with the wind chill last week - today was positively balmy at -10C and no wind, I could live with that.

  4. I watched a couple of our deer up in the valley today calmly out before it began to blow. They didn't look too bothered since it was relatively mild before the wind started.

  5. Erik:

You are lucky you don't have to commute and can just wait it out. Of course, as long as your food supply lasts.

Hot soup on a cold day. I'm thinking either cheese or garlic bread would be a good companion

  6. The heck with winter, when there is a fireplace and a hot soup.

  7. Cold weather is a good excuse for a snuggle - like you need an excuse.

That poor squirrel looks chilly. I bet he appreciated the feed. I know when it gets cold our bird feeders get busier and the little brown squirrels can be found perched on them too.
