Last night, we decided that we would change plans again. We wanted to stay in Ely one more day to ride the train. So after a great breakfast of American fries with chorizo, peppers, onions and scrambled eggs at the Silver State, we went back to the hotel. We did laundry, and moved into another room. Around 1400, we went down to the Nevada Northern Railway Museum and purchased tickets and took the tour of their grounds.
We got to walk through the engine shop and watch them fire up the 1910 locomotive that would be pulling the train, #93.
The Museum is a working museum. They have a nice collection of rolling stock. Nearly 70 cars from the early 1900's.
After the tour, they drove the locomotive out of the shop and connected it to the train.
The completed train was a locomotive, it's tender, 2 Pullmans, an open car with bench seats, and a caboose.
The train ride is a little under 2 hours and takes you through town and out towards the copper mine. It runs past the legal brothels in town.
The train runs through 2 short tunnels.
At the end of the line, the turn the train around in a "Y". From there you can see trucks from the copper mine.
The museum also has an area where they do a re-enactment of a train robbery.
After the train ride we went for dinner at La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant. Both John and I ate way too much. The portions are huge. After that we went back to the hotel.
Tomorrow we'll head west.
