An Early Christmas Present for Myself

Like most of us, I visit a lot of motorcycle related web sites. I belong to a motorcycle camping forum, motocampers.com. A few weeks ago, one of the members posted a few pictures of some handy security cables he's made and selling. Here's a link to his thread, Click Me.

I know that the use of cables to secure items to a motorcycle is not a new idea, but the price and color were right. I gambled, and won! They arrived today.

I ordered a short cable and a long one, in neon green(is there really any other color?). The finished length of the short one is about 21" (53cm) and the longer one is 53" (135cm) The prices were right too. The short one was $3.00 and the long was $5.00. He wanted $1.70 for shipping US Mail. I noticed the postage sticker was a little over $2.00. He might want to up the shipping a bit. For $9.70 I feel like I won the lottery.

I'm happy with them, now if it weren't another 5 months until I can ride again it would be perfect.

Brandy, I added this just for you!

I also visit that MotoCampers forum but I can't comment as I didn't register.

I wished I had something more cost effective like this. I ended up buying that PacSafe 85L last year but haven't really used it yet.

I have to check and see if they come in Hot Pink

    1. I think the neon red is pretty close to hot pink. You could e-mail him and see what it would cost to ship up to Canada, or do you also have a US p.o.box like a few of my other Canadian friends?

I have a US address for my eBay stuff, but crossing the border can take 3 hours each way this time of year. Too many Canadians go to the US to shop. Last Saturday there was already a 1-1/2 hour wait at 7am. It's not unusual to reach 3 hours by noon, and then everyone comes back to Canada later in the day

I need to send you my $10. and I can pick it up next July

    3. I tell you what Bob, you swing by here on your way east and I'll have a pink set for you! We'll see how closely they match your Crocs.

  2. "if it weren't 5 months......"
Just think how good you'll be at knowing exactly how and where to secure your necessaries 5 months from now with the time for practice.

I'm on MotoCampers as well but struggle to keep up with all of my assigned forums that need monitoring; another benefit of the indoor pace our winters provide us.

    1. It would be interesting to know.. The envelope he mailed them to me in was the size of a flat sheet or paper. It couldn't weigh more than 3-4 ounces.

  4. Cool. Definitely a cost effective way for securing the gear.

Nice color choice. I can see you using them to secure your "Crocs" to the bike while you are riding. Who says function can't be fashionable......

  5. Of course one would secure one's lime green crocs ... they were after all much harder to acquire than a mere helmet or jacket, you can get those items anywhere - lime crocs, you have to go to Oregon to purchase. Great choice of color Erik - a perfect match. (I like the idea (not green though). Thanks for the tip.

    2. It's obvious to me that my footwear game needs stepping-up. I am woefully behind.
