I noticed that others are posting pics of their "fall colors", so I thought I'd add mine. This year, the colors don't seem a bright and vibrant as last year. The trees also seem to be disorganized this year... Some are slowly turning colors, some are still very green, while others have lost their leaves!
I cleared out about a 25' x 25' spot along side my driveway. I'd like to get the ground work done and get a garden in here before Winter...
Some of the trees are already dropping a lot of leaves...

Not sure what it is about this Fall but the trees just aren't communicating among themselves. We have the same mix of green, yellow and none as far as leaves go. Seems odd. Today is 32°F, wet and snowing.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it was a side effect of the late spring we had??? Today it's very windy and even more leaves are falling.
DeleteBeauty in chaos!!
ReplyDeleteThe trees may not be organized in dropping their leaves or changing colors but they are pretty.
We too are experiencing the same, but not the vibrant colors yet.
This seems to be an odd fall for the colors.
DeleteIf they were German trees... no skip that. The leaves over here are also found in various conditions but not as vibrant in colour as yours. Enjoy it while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if they were German trees, they would all change color at exactly the same time because the Permit issued by the Fall Color Bureau would require it! LOL....
DeleteHow did you know? It works exactly like this ;-)
DeleteJust guessing... I figured it would be that way based on how hard it is to get a drivers license and plates for imported bikes!
Deletegorgeous colors! the leaves are just starting to wink at change out here...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll probably post a few more fall color photos as conditions improve.
DeleteErik:
ReplyDeletewe have mostly evergreens here on the Coast. A bit of sporadic yellow but no reds so it's nice to look at photos from around the Country, stuff that we don't see here.
I'm thinking that your wood piles are full and overflowing in anticipation . . .

I have a neighbor that's building a new garage and he has offered a few of his trees to me. I gladly accepted! I figure I have 8.5 to 9 face cords (4' x 8' x 16") of Oak and Maple. It should be enough for 2 winters. But I'll keep cutting, splitting and stacking.
DeleteI was wondering what a "face cord' of wood was. I guess I could have looked it up...
Delete1 cord = 3 face cords.
I know some terms vary by region. Around here I hear, "face cord", "fireplace cord", and "cord" all used to describe the same thing. Then I hear "loggers cord", that one is usually used to describe part of a truck load of 8' longlogs... (8' long x 4' high, x 4' wide)
DeleteThat's the term I hear all the time and what's used when I used to buy firewood.
DeleteErik, I've heard various reports about the colors in our region. At home (our local townships) we have few maples, but across the river in WI there are many more and lots more red than we have with our muted oaks.
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm down in southern WI for a few days, there are some lovely pockets of color; earlier trees or locations anxious to get out and show off.
You've earned a rest after all of that cutting and stacking; you will be enjoying your effort soon.
Even up here, the color changes a lot by location. Cable is good, Hayward is behind.
DeleteEnjoy the crud run!
We don't see many trees here in the city, lol

Well if you do get out near some trees, watch out for leaves in the streets. They get to be slippery little buggers!
