...in the aftermath of the latest blizzard.
I finished snow blowing today. The sky was clear and the sun was bright, but the wind was still blowing quite strongly. It made using the snow blower difficult.
The blowing snow has made some interesting patterns in the yard. I tried to photograph them, but between my lack of skill, and the limits of my camera, trying to capture the sand dune look of the snow was a challenge. Click on the pictures for a better view.....
I know that my snow blower just isn't big enough to handle the large snowfalls of the north woods. I happened to find this video posted on a forum I follow... Now this is a snow blower!!!!

No, you need one of these. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bps1NKmNHTo
ReplyDeleteI think the V8 powered walk behind might be easier to get into the garage!
DeleteBut it would fit fine in the new shop, right?
DeleteI need one of each and yesterday if I'd have known where to find one locally.......
ReplyDeleteYou need a rubber tired loader with a diesel powered blower in place of the bucket! or a V plow on it at least! You could probably rent one for the winter from Ziegler's or Road Machine Services.... $$$$$$$$
DeletePretty pictures of the snow, the blown layers make me think of multi-layered mesas or rock canyon walls.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking sand dunes, but yes, it's like a white out version of the southwest.
DeleteErik I thought it was snow art, it reminded me of the sands at low tide along the ocean.
DeleteThe snow drift pictures are beautiful. I am thinking they look like sandstone formations I've seen in Utah.
ReplyDeleteThanks. the contour was hard to capture from inside.
DeleteLove that snowblower! A toy like that in the garage could make even the worst snow storms fun. But for now I've just had enough already. C'mon spring!
ReplyDeleteThat thing looks like a beast. I too, think it would be fun to try out.
DeleteTotally agree with Canajun ... the snow toys have been fun, but enough already!
DeleteErik:
ReplyDeleteThose are very nice patterns, sort of like the eroding sandstone of UT or AZ as mentioned.
can you set your camera to +1.5 EV ?
Is the snow hard enough to walk on or would you sink

Bob, I had to google EV. I've been playing with some of the settings on my camera. I found a "snowy" scene setting. I've also been experimenting by taking it out of "auto" mode and using both the shutter speed priority and aperture priority settings. The nice thing about digital cameras Vs. my old 35mm SLR film camera is there's no waiting for the film to be developed to see what works. I've started bracketing some of the shots so I can chose the best one. Part of the problem has been trying to shoot through low E, double pane window glass. The windows block a lot of light, but it's been too cold and the snow is too deep, to walk into the back yard to get the right shot!
