Here Comes the COLD! pizza pictures added!

The local news has been talking about the expected temperatures of the next few days. Here's a screen shot from weather.com for Cable, WI. It shows the projected temps for Monday. For the Celsius temp people, -14°F = -25.5°C. Either way, it's cold!
The garage wood pile is stocked and ready! Bring it on!

Updated and current weather from Weather.com!!

On a happier note... One of the nice things about living way up north and away from civilization is, when you make a trip to the "cities", you make it worth while. On our last trip down, we stopped at El Burrito Mercado a small Mexican food market in St. Paul. They have a large kitchen and serve food there, as well as their own fresh cooked items in the coolers, a large grocery section, and a gift and household items section.
We stocked up on pre-made beans, rice, tamales, real Mexican cheese, and their own fresh Pico de gallo. mmmmm. So today, for lunch I had a warm bowl of rice and beans with a couple of quesadillas.

Dinner tonight was home made pizza. No tomato sauce, just olive oil infused with garlic, red bell pepper, onion, and cheese!

  1. That is cold! I don't think we even get those kind of temps down south during the winter....but having seen pics of your garage. I am sure you will be fine!

    1. That's about as cold as it ever seems to get around here. We might see a -20°F during the winter, but those super cold -0 temps don't usually last long, a day or 2 at the most.

  2. Wise shopping, great looking (and sounding) food but most important of all?? That's one good lookin' header photo!

    1. I'm just glad I don't live where it gets really cold! Richard was posting -45°F (-42°C) temps about a month ago... Too cold for me...

  4. Reading about your temperatures always makes me feel like such a weather weenie.

Good thing you have the garage stocked with wood. Crank it up and throw another log on the fire. If nothing else the kitties can pack around you for warmth.

    2. Making the pizza on top of the wood stove?

Whenever the temps drop in your area it climbs up around here. We are at a balmy +10°F, so thank you for importing the cold....

    3. We always seem to get cold air from those darn Canadians! We need better border guards to keep that cold air out!!!

  5. Remember what happened when W said "Bring it on"?

Careful with those words!!! I live here, too! And we may be getting stronger winds today than you!

I recommend radiant floor heat to everyone. Even in this weather my boiler didn't run for 12 hours yesterday because the heat stored in the tile overnight was enough. Boy, am I going to miss this floor!

  6. Erik:

Our homes up here were not built to withstand those minus temps. Plus we only have summer clothes so we have to layer more. I know we are only a few degrees around freezing but you know it's cold when I put my sandals away

    1. I know how you feel. I knew someone that used to live in southern CA. They were originally from MN and they used to shock people by walking around in shorts when the temps were cold enough for the SoCal people to drag out the parkas. It was funny to hear his stories. The sad thing was the "freezing weather" was really only in the 40's hehehe. Get the temps close to 100° and I'm really complaining though.

  7. It's minus 22 right now and I was outside doing some things and wondered when it was going to get "really cold". Well, I guess I am adapting very quickly! But I'm not going to do those outdoor things I hoped I could do. Minus 22 inside the lungs just feels really, really bad after a while.

    1. To be totally honest, the crust was from a pre-packaged, just add water mix. Still, it was very good!

I cut up 2 cloves of garlic and add at to an ounce or so of olive oil, then heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. I let it sit while I cut up the peppers and onions. I spread the garlic oil on the crust with a pastry bush, top with veggies and cheese.... MMMMMM!!!!!!

  9. Damn that is cold. Too cold for me. We ride our motorcycle here in the middle of winter and it might get up 18-20°C in the middle of the day.

    1. Wow, mid 60's in winter would be interesting. It would be nice to ride year round, but I'm sure I'd miss the change of seasons.. maybe just not the severe cold!

  10. Sorry, way too cold for me, I prefer when there's a plus in front, anything about 25C is good for me :-)
Pizza looks good, light up the fireplace, cozy up in front and have warm pizza, nothing could be better.

  11. Erik - blame it all on Saskatchewan 'cause down here in Ontario we don't know what winter is supposed to be (heeeheee!) Glad you have wood stocked up and glad I've got a son who loves playing with a chainsaw ... especially since the temp just dropped from plus 5 to minus 15 (not counting wind chill) over the last two days.

  12. The pizza does look pretty good! I spoke too soon as it was back to -20°F again this morning. But then again, it January, anything else would be strange.
