The sky has been gray the last couple of days with off and on rain. This afternoon, the temps must of dropped just enough for the rain to turn to snow.
The Squirrels, Chipmunks, and Juncos are busy gathering up seed as fast as they can...
The Deer have come up to nibble on some spilled bird seed too...
I know this snow wont last long, and better weather is a head, but it's a cold reminder that winter is not far away.
I was really looking forward to a dry spell. I still have to get the bikes to town to top off the gas tanks and get the Sta-bil added. The lawn needs another cutting/leaf mulching, and I still have one more log rack to build.
I did manage to gather a nice load last week. I need to cut it to 16" logs, split and stack it! Those are mostly 4' lengths of dry Oak.
A few pictures from 10-21-13.... before the temps warm up and the snow goes away!

First to get it and last to get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteWe are still chilly and wet with rain here. Months are going by like a freight train!
I sure hope this spring isn't a repeat of last spring. It felt like the winter that never ended!
DeleteThis must be why our hummingbird feeder is no longer being emptied.
ReplyDeleteIt's been quite a few weeks since we've seen any hummingbirds. Or feeders are all washed and put away.
DeleteDid you get snow?
Blech, snow. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo when will your bike have to go into hibernation, do you think? Or are you a year-round rider?
Personally hoping I can get a few more rides in before the long winter's nap for the Triumph...
I think this probably about it. Once they start to drop salt/sand the season is over. I think I'll have to get the 5 gallon can filled, top off the bikes, and let them run in the garage to get the Sta-bil mixed in.
DeleteThe township doesn't plow the side streets well enough to make me a year round rider. Once winter is here to stay, the side roads get pretty bad. I think I'd need 3 wheels under me to keep things upright. Then there's always the electrical and corrosion problems the salt causes....
Erik:
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest filling a 5 gal can but you beat me to it.
My riding season may be over too. Because of my trip this year I let my Vstrom insurance lapse last July. And because insurance is too expensive for my R1200R I only insured for the summer and it just expired last Thursday. To insure both bikes for the year would be around $3K so I am trying to save insurance costs
I don't envy you with your snow but it does look nice "from a distance"
For the past week we have been blanketed with FOG. We barely reached 10°c all weekend

Riding the Wet Coast
Wow, insurance in BC is HIGH!
DeleteI'd be happy to ship some snow to you, but it doesn't pack and ship very well. LOL...
Ick blah - first snow. Is this early or late for your first snow?
ReplyDeleteIt has probably already melted. If not sit in front of the roaring fire and you'll soon forget it and the list of things you need to do.
This snow is a few weeks earlier than last years first real snowfall.
DeleteIt's still around, and looking at the temps on weather.com it's going to be here a while.
Nancy has already started the fireplace!
Although your pics are beautiful, I have to admit that I am not yet ready for the white stuff yet. You are obviously well prepared. I love the heat and smell of a good wood fire.
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping that the warm weather would hold on a few more weeks. I still have plenty of outside projects left to do!
DeleteWhar ia this "snow" stuff that you're talking about? Is it a Wisconsin thing?
ReplyDeleteWe still don't have any of the stuff yet. As the bumer sticker says, "Alaskans for Global Warming!"
I'm pretty sure some of this white stuff is headed your way. I'm looking forward to seeing the screen shots off of weather.com that you post.... All the -0 temps for a week at a time. They make me feel better!
ReplyDeleteSnow ... tell me it isn't so!
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't snowed here yet but the temperatures are dropping so I know it will soon. There is something wonderful about sitting in front of a warm fire. (Yikes, I haven't got the snow tires on yet!)
