Days like today make up for the 3 months in a row of sub freezing temps. By noon, the snow was melting off the roof resulting in several steady streams of running water. It was warm enough to work in the garage with just a shirt and no jacket. I spent some time cleaning up the Zx-14. I washed all the winter dust off it, lubed the chain and checked the air in the tires. By 3:00 this afternoon it was ready to ride. It's amazing what 100 miles of seat time can do for a person!
50 miles away, Ashland, WI and Lake Superior...
Richard has suggested I not look at tractors and try hand shoveling my driveway as a way of making sure my riding gear fits every spring.. :) That's an interesting idea, but I still stopped by for a look...
It felt so nice to finally get out for a long ride!!

glad you got a longer ride in today
ReplyDeleteand the larger deere,s should make the snow removal a bit easier
The tractors in the picture are the ones I'd be looking at. They'll take a 54" snowblower, a front end loader, a mower under the belly, and have a regular 3 point hitch system in the back. It would be useful year round.
DeleteThere's a lake in that first photo?
ReplyDeleteAt least your riding the most powerful tractor in those other photos.
Yup, believe it or not, the bay is still frozen over. Just a few weeks ago people were driving on the ice. If you go to Google Maps, bring up the USA, look at the largest lake up near our border with Canada. That's Lake Superior. Zoom in on the lake. Along the south shore in Wisconsin, there's a highway 2 running across the top of the state. Where 2 gets closest to the lake is Ashland, Wisconsin. That bay, Chequamegon Bay. is the one in the picture. It freezes solid just about every year. This year, 95% of the ENTIRE lake froze over!
DeleteNorth of Ashland along hwy 13 is the town of Bayfield, WI. Out in the lake near Bayfield is Madeline Island. There are year round residents on the island. In the winter, the county plows roads on the ice so residents can drive to and from the island. The ice conditions are monitored daily.
I live south of Ashland off of highway 63, near the little town of Cable, WI, east of 63 about 5 miles.
I saw those John Deere's before I saw Ashland and wondered.....sure enough. Not only did you get out before me, you went north! That a boy.
ReplyDeleteI was going to loop around "Cornie" and come home, but I would have run out of daylight. I'll save that for next time.
DeleteI bet it felt good to get the big bike out to play. Those first two-wheeled rides in the spring can do wonders as a mood elevator.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure!
DeleteWell, finally the green machine is back on the road. I am sure the bike was eager to get some mileage under its belt. Good stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteErik:
ReplyDeleteyou still have lots of snow on the ground. Hope the road is clear of debris. Your Ninja blends right in with the John Deere's. I'm amazed that they would have so much stock. I would have thought that everyone would have a tractor already, or maybe they want to upgrade after this winter.
Looks like your riding season has officially started

Erik, spring has finally made a break through here as well ... I think the Nija would love a Deere for company during the winter months.
